Video Game Design: Development & Art

The Molten Lair
Mini Jam 113: Final Boss 2022

Picture
Another day, another raid at the local Boss lair. This time, the raid goes to the Molten Lair, housing the Lava Golem as the Final Boss!

I facilitated ideation, designed the graphical interface and co-designed gameplay and mechanics. I assisted in the programming work.

Team consisted of 3 people; one dedicated programmer; one game and model designer; one graphical designer and support programmer (me).

Gizmo Rabbit
Survive Jam 2022

Gizmo Rabbit was the result of combining a humanoid rodent with random gizmos and thingamajigs with inspiration from Rube Goldberg machines and the industrial age. Some of the components might help you fly longer, while others grant you more attachment points. Be careful how you place your components, as you can't undo it. Your vehicle will become bigger and bigger as attach more components . See if you can discover all the components in the game, beat your high score, or just build the coolest vehicle in town.

My main role in the project was fascilitating the ideation process, and managing the development process. I drew all the assets, assisted the programmer and communicated with players.

Team consisted of 2 game designers and 1 programmer.

This is just a small snippet of this project. You can find the main page it here

Spinning Barrel
Kenney Jam 2021

Shoot your way through zombies, hitmen and more using a rotating arsenal of weapons. Earn combos, reach the end. Survive.

For this jam we had to use premade graphic assets. My main role in the project was fascilitating the ideation process, and managing the development process. I assisted the programmer and prepared the spritesheet.

Team consisted of 2 game designers, 1 audio designer and 1 programmer.

Sands of Time
Nordic Game Jam 2021

Race pointlessly against the sands of time, pending your eventual death.
Use the WASD keys to run and jump. Escape the rising sands, but watch your head! Lumps of sand fall from above.
Beat your own high score, or compete with a friend locally.

My main role in the project was fascilitating the ideation process, and managing the development process. I assisted the programmer, animated the hourglass and conducted ongoing play testing.

Team consisted of 3 game designers and 1 programmer.

Double Agent
Historically Accurate Game Jam 3 (2020)

This was the first full game I made, in collaboration with two other developers. A double agent has infiltrated the embassy! You must stop them from ruining the negotiations. Your task is to point out who the double agent is, before they sabotage all their targets.

My main role in the project was fascilitating the ideation process, and managing the development process. Furthermore, I coded various parts of the game mechanics. The game took part in the Historically Accurate Game Jam, where it achieved generally favorable ratings (https://itch.io/jam/historically-accurate-3/rate/872912).

Team consisted of 3 game designers struggling to write code.

The Running Man:
Fun & Project Based Learning

In the fall of 2019, I decided that I wanted to improve myself in two areas: programming with Python and pixel art.
To make my learning easier and more progressive, I decided to integrate it into a video game. Video games have been a great part of my life. I am deeply facinated of how great narratives can be integrated into the interactive and explorative medium.

This page illustrates some of the artwork and development I have engaged with when making my game The Running Man. The game is build in the Open-Source game engine Godot. The sprites and tilesets are made in the pixel art program Aseprite.

Animated gif of a pixel animated angry drone delivering a box.
Animated gif of the pixel animated player using a spray bottle.
Animated gif of the pixel animated player running.
Animated gif of a pixel animated goblin getting damaged and losing its limbs.

Experience working with the following tools:
  • Godot Engine

  • JavaScript, C# & Godot Script (Python Based)

  • Unity Game Engine

  • Blender

  • Classic GameMaker Engine

  • Aseprite

  • Adobe Photoshop
