My Tax

Limited insights in economic decisions

In Denmark, there is a lack of transparency in what citizen taxes are spend on. The system is inherently complex and difficult to comprehend.

When politicians are deciding where taxes should go, they engage in bureaucratic and inefficient managements which is an unnecessary cost.

Finally, the tax system can lead to unrepresentative decisions, that isn’t consistent with the will of the population.

Increased citizen participation

MyTax is a reconceptualization of the current tax system and practice. By mimicking the interface of the design language of the Danish tax system, the concept feels familiar and yet contemporary.

Interacting with MyTax is a playful experience, wherein the user can explore different tax outcomes based on their annual income.

The concept is based on the idea of Tax Choice, a system where the citizen is in direct control over how their taxes are spent.

In short: the concept is a digital democratization of the tax system.

An experimental process

To design the conceptual system, I had to research the current tax system of Denmark. I investigated how the tax progressed depending on your personal annual income. Based on my research I calculated the tax rates and started to develop the system.

MyTax is developed in HTML, JavaScript and CSS. Everything is programmed by me. The source code can be seen on my github page: https://github.com/duendue/Kaskade

Finally, I made a release plan and press release for the concept. As the general election was coming up, I predicted that the media attention would revolve around the subject of the Danish Finance Act.

A business project

The concept was made as a project at the IT & Workshop business Kaskade, which I Co-founded and am a Partner of.
