A community-driven research-project

The research-project COMPASS, which is part of The University of Copenhagen, wanted a video that could document one of their workshops, called Solution Lab 2. The purpose of the COMPASS research-project is to generate concrete methods and tools to help support a green societal conversion.

Solution Lab 2 took place at a co-operative green community in Hjortshøj north of Aarhus. The participants included representatives from different green initiatives, grassroot societies, and researchers. Some of these representatives held presentations about different aspects of the relationship between communities and sustainability.

Dynamic and engaging visuals

Our goal was to stay loyal to the values of the research-project. Therefore, we emphasized that the video both was documentational and informational.

Furthermore, true to the principles of the research-project, we valued personal learning highly.

The video is edited with cross-cut between documentational images of the workshop and its surroundings and informational interviews with some of the stakeholders.

This makes the video more interesting and dynamic to watch.

A co-produced composition

We decided to make one long video, instead of several short videos, as we assessed that this would be the best format in relation to our project brief.

This ended out in an 8-minute video. We documented the different talks and joined on the tour around the facilities of the community. Furthermore, we held interviews with the project-manager and all the presenters of the workshop.

To produce the video, we had brought 2 DSLR cameras and two microphones. We used Adobe Premiere Pro to edit the video, Adobe After Effects to compose the Visual Effect Shots, and Adobe Audacity to master the sound.

We distributed the workload evenly between my production-partner and I, meaning that all creative decisions were made jointly.
